Options Pricing Ordering

The National STAR Training Network (NSTN) offers two training and technical assistance packages that:
  • increase teachers' knowledge and use of evidence-based reading instruction (EBRI); and
  • improve the capacity of adult education systems to support EBRI.
NSTN leverages the skills and knowledge of an expert team to deliver:
  • training institutes;
  • onsite technical assistance; and
  • online technical assistance.

Options

group photo States can use their Adult Education and Family Literacy Act leadership funds, or other funds for professional development, to purchase these training packages.
  • STAR Training Package I - A training model that includes training institutes and online learning.
  • STAR Training Package II - Package I plus site-based technical assistance.

Each training package is based on the STAR Tool Kit, which translates reading research into usable tips, techniques, and tools for assessing and teaching essential reading skills. The Overview of STAR Institutes highlights the different skills and knowledge participants will acquire with each training. (PDF)

STAR participants will explore reading research, acquire new instructional techniques, and learn how adult learners develop reading proficiency. They will also practice what they have learned in a supportive and collegial setting.

Pricing

Pricing for Training Package I - $36,600

This package features three, two-day, in-state institutes on diagnostic assessment and evidence-based reading instruction for 45 participants. The price includes all training and materials for the 45 participants, and all travel and associated costs for two members of the national cadre staff who will deliver the training. The NSTN will deliver the institutes within a 9-month period.

Pricing for Training Package II - $49,891

This price includes everything under Package I plus 15 days of technical assistance-onsite and offsite-including three site visits to the state. The NSTN will designate one cadre member as the state technical assistance provider. The cost of his or her travel is included in this price.

States may incur additional costs during and after STAR institutes. Be sure to consider these costs when budgeting for STAR.
