Options

States can use their Adult Education and Family Literacy Act leadership funds, or other funds designated for professional development, to purchase any of these training packages.

• STAR National Training and Technical Assistance Package
  A training model that includes training institutes, online learning and site-based technical assistance. This package is available to any state or consortium of two or more states.
• STAR Trainer Certification Package
  A year long certification process that enables partner states to develop certified trainers equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide STAR training and technical assistance to their existing, as well as new STAR programs. This package is available to STAR partner states.
• Partner State Expansion Package
  A co-training model that utilizes a state's certified trainer(s) and one National Cadre trainer to help partner states expand STAR further and faster across more programs at a reduced cost. This package is available to STAR partner states.
• STAR Coaching Package
  A trainer support model for STAR Trainer Certification Candidates through onsite coaching, co-training and technical assistance, as well as STAR Training and Technical Assistance for new participants at a reduced cost. This package is available to STAR partner states.

Each training package is based on the STAR Tool Kit, which translates reading research into usable tips, techniques and tools for assessing and teaching essential reading skills. STAR participants will explore reading research, acquire new instructional techniques, and learn how adult learners develop reading proficiency. They will also practice what they have learned in a supportive and collegial setting.

States that have purchased and completed the STAR National Training and Technical Assistance Package will have the opportunity to develop certified trainers equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide STAR training and technical assistance within their state. Partner states that are interested in further expanding STAR within their state can purchase the Partner State Expansion Package which provides states with the National Training and Technical Assistance Package at a reduced cost. States will utilize their certified trainers to co-train and provide technical assistance with a National Cadre trainer. This package allows partner states to expand STAR to more programs within a desired time frame while utilizing and further developing the skills of their certified trainers.

Partner states that have candidates in the process of completing STAR Trainer Certification can purchase additional coaching support while simultaneously expanding their STAR programs. This package allows states to provide their trainer certification candidates with onsite mentoring and coaching while expanding STAR further and faster within their states. Candidates will work hand and hand with a National Cadre trainer to deliver STAR National Training and Technical Assistance. Through onsite coaching, co-training and targeted technical assistance, candidates will further develop their training and technical assistance skills.

Pricing

Pricing for STAR National Training and Technical Assistance Package - $49,544.15
This package is available to any state or consortium of two or more states. Prices for states forming a consortium will be determined on a case by case basis.

This package features three, two-day, in-state institutes on diagnostic assessment and evidence-based reading instruction for 45 participants. The price includes all training and materials for the 45 participants, and all travel and associated costs for two members of the national cadre staff who will deliver the training. The NSTN will deliver the institutes within a 9-month period. This package also includes 15 days of technical assistance-onsite and offsite-including three site visits to the state. The NSTN will designate one cadre member as the state technical assistance provider. The cost of his or her travel is included in this price. 

States may incur additional costs during and after STAR institutes. Be sure to consider these costs when budgeting for STAR. See  Step 3 under Ready, Set, STAR  for other costs states may incur.

Pricing for Trainer Certification Package - $4,386 - $14,917
This package is available to STAR partner states.

This package gives partner states the opportunity to expand and sustain STAR within their state by developing in-state STAR trainers. The Trainer Certification Package features a Training of Trainers (TOT) kickoff event, coaching support for candidates and an online portfolio to manage candidate's certification activities. Upon completion of the certification process, the state's certified trainers will have the knowledge and skills necessary to train and provide technical assistance to new STAR programs as well as grant Tool Kit access to trainees. The price includes all training and materials for up to four state-nominated trainer candidates. National STAR Trainer Certification must be purchased through the state, individual teachers and/or programs are not eligible to nominate candidates for this process. Pricing for the Partner State Expansion Package – $20,685.57
This package is available to STAR partner states.

Partner states will receive the STAR National Training and Technical Assistance Package at a reduced cost. The price includes all training and materials for the 45 participants and all travel and associated costs for one National Cadre trainer who will co-deliver the training with the state's certified STAR trainer(s). The in-state trainer(s) will be designated as the state's lead technical assistance provider with support from the National Cadre Trainer.

Pricing for the STAR Coaching Package – $29,265.57
This package is available to STAR partner states.

STAR Trainer Certification Candidates will receive additional coaching support from a National Cadre trainer as well as STAR National Training for new programs in their state. This package allows states to provide their candidates with additional professional development while simultaneously expanding STAR further and faster within their states. The price includes all training and materials for the 45 participants and all travel and associated costs for one National Cadre trainer who will provide on-site coaching during institutes, co-deliver pieces of the training to model training techniques and provide virtual technical assistance between institutes to the state's trainer certification candidate(s).
