Professional Development System The Wisconsin Technical College System Office (WTCS) coordinates statewide professional development opportunities for faculty in technical college districts and community based organizations. On occasion, faculties from other state agencies are invited to attend, i.e. Department of Corrections and Literacy Councils. Funding to support these professional development events come from AEFL State Leadership dollars. The STAR project has been partially funded through AEFL. STAR Implementation The STAR program will be entering its third year. In the first two years, 68 staff completed STAR training, representing 13 of the 16 technical college districts. This past year, two Wisconsin STAR trained instructors completed STAR Trainer Certification. They will facilitate their second cohort of training September 9 and 10, 2010; October 12 and 13, 2010; and January 20 and 21, 2011. Forty people will participate in this training including staff from one of the districts currently not implementing STAR. Future goals are to develop a state wide STAR data collection process, develop mechanisms to share information and materials, expand on ways to provide the necessary time for assessment, planning and instruction, and develop a state plan that will coordinate the initiative.
