Partner State Florida's State Profile
Professional Development System Florida offers professional development opportunities through professional organizations, regional training councils, and Florida TechNet. Teachers, tutors, and administrators are encouraged to attend face-to-face and distance learning professional development opportunities. The Florida Department of Education provides funding and monitors professional development events. STAR Pilot Florida's STAR pilot includes eleven sites in the following counties: Bay, Broward, Collier, Department of Corrections, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Polk. STAR pilot sites were selected through an open request for statements of interest. All interested counties that met the application deadline where included in the pilot. The vision of the STAR Initiative for the state of Florida is to provide adult students the opportunities to become confident and proficient readers; provide teachers with teaching strategies to meet the students' goals, and; increase the number of student performances reported.
