CALPRO provides
professional development activities for adult education providers (adult
schools, community college non-credit programs, community-based and faith-based
organizations, and library literacy providers).
The California Distance
Learning Project (CDLP) assists adult education providers in making
teaching and learning work outside of a traditional classroom setting.
The Outreach and Technical Assistance
Network (OTAN) offers professional development opportunities for
integrating technology in the classroom for both the adult educator and the
adult learner.
STAR Pilot
California implemented STAR in seven school districts and two Department of Corrections and
Rehabilitation (state prison) sites. Each site has one or more teachers participating with a
total of 18 teachers in the project. Each teacher is implementing STAR in one classroom.
All classes are Adult Basic Education (ABE) with direct classroom instruction. Most classes
are multi-level. The adult education teachers are all required to have an appropriate credential
issued by the state in addition to at least a Bachelor's degree.
