 Partner States  The STAR Tool Kit and training package was designed to improve
ABE classroom instructional practices in reading by translating research to
practice.
Partner states receive training and technical assistance in using the STAR Tool
Kit to:
-
choose appropriate diagnostic assessment tools for their adult students;
-
develop instructional approaches based on assessment results; and
-
examine program structures to support implementation of evidence-based reading
instruction.
The STAR Tool Kit was pilot tested in six states between July 2005 and May
2006. All pilot states are currently expanding STAR practices to additional
local programs.
Five new states have recently joined the STAR partner network and an additional
seven states will be enrolled in STAR training in 2008 and 2009.
