Empowering states to improve
adult literacy instruction
Today more than ever it is critical for adults to acquire the basic literacy skills necessary to succeed. In response, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) developed STAR to provide states with the resources and training needed to improve the quality of reading instruction in adult education.
STAR is...
Professional development and training
that helps Adult Basic Education (ABE) instructors use evidence-based reading instruction (EBRI) in the classroom.
A Network of experts
helping to build local and state systems that support reading improvement. The STAR Network currently serves 19 partner states and is growing.
